Argentina university teachers begin six‑day national strike

Argentina’s public university teachers’ unions, CONADU and Conadu Histórica, announced a six‑day national strike from 16 to 20 June. The walk‑out demands the full implementation of the University Funding Law and a salary increase for faculty. Unions say the government, through the National Inter‑University Council, has floated a roughly 24 % pay rise but has not provided a formal, binding offer, prompting a complaint to the International Labour Organization and heightened tension with authorities.

The strike coincides with two national holidays – 15 June for the memorial of Martín Miguel de Güemes and 20 June for Flag Day – meaning most university activities will be suspended for the week.

Union leaders warned that without a formal negotiation process the crisis in public universities could deepen, affecting the start of the second semester for thousands of students.
