Argentina university teachers launch week‑long nationwide strike

The National Federation of University Teachers (CONADU) voted to intensify its conflict with the Argentine government by calling a full‑week strike from 16 to 20 June. The protest demands the enactment of the University Funding Law and the opening of a paritary negotiation to address long‑standing salary and budget shortfalls in public universities. Planned actions include public classes before courts in Buenos Aires and other cities on 9 June, mobilisations in Rosario and at the Pizzurno Palace on 11 and 16 June, and continued visibility actions nationwide. CONADU also filed a complaint with the International Labour Organization accusing the government of bypassing mandatory negotiations and restricting the constitutional right to strike.

In the province of Catamarca, the strike has heightened uncertainty for the second semester, with students, faculty and families fearing disruption of academic activities. Local authorities have been criticised for failing to provide clear solutions, raising concerns that the crisis could further damage university financing and research capacity in the region.
