Argentina automotive market shows used car rebound in September
The Argentine automotive market showed mixed results in September 2026. The used vehicle segment experienced a significant rebound, with transfers reaching approximately 170,000 units. This represents a roughly 9% to 10% increase compared to August, making it one of the strongest Septembers in over three decades. The Volkswagen Gol was the most transferred model, while Volkswagen led the market by brand.
In contrast, the new vehicle and industrial segments showed more volatility. While new vehicle registrations rose 10.7% from August, they remain down double digits compared to the previous year. The manufacturing sector reported a slight 0.9% production increase in September, though exports grew by 14.7% compared to the previous month.
The agricultural machinery sector faced a downturn, with registrations for tractors and harvesters falling by over 20% year-on-year, signaling that the recovery in this specific niche has stalled. Regional data shows Mendoza saw an 8.5% increase in registrations, performing better than the national average in terms of year-on-year contraction.
