Argentina UVA fixed-term deposits grow nearly 500% in 2026
UVA-linked fixed-term deposits in Argentina have seen significant growth in 2026, increasing by 496.5% so far this year. According to data from the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA), the stock of UVA/CER deposits reached 1.695 trillion pesos as of August 18.
These instruments are increasingly favored by savers looking to protect their purchasing power against inflation. Unlike traditional fixed-term deposits, UVA deposits adjust capital based on the Unidad de Valor Adquisitivo (UVA), which is updated daily via the Coeficiente de Estabilización de Referencia (CER). This coefficient is linked to the Consumer Price Index (IPC) published by Indec.
While the stock of these deposits experienced a decline of over 4% in the last 30 days, the year-to-date growth remains substantial. Compared to the same period last year, the stock has increased by 301.7%. The rise in demand is attributed to investors seeking real positive returns and protection against inflationary pressures.
