Argentina vehicle market sees surge in electric cars and motorcycles

Argentina is experiencing a rapid shift in its automotive landscape. Electrified vehicles, including hybrid and electric models, have seen a significant increase, reaching approximately 16% of total registrations in 2026. This growth is largely driven by Chinese manufacturers such as BYD, BAIC, Chery, and Haval, which have benefited from zero-tariff import quotas. As these vehicles become more common, insurance providers are adapting by offering specific coverage for high-voltage batteries, energy management systems, and charging cables.

Simultaneously, there is a notable trend in motorcycle registrations. Nationally, the ratio of motorcycles to new cars has reached its highest level since 2007, with 1.54 motorcycles registered for every car. The province of Jujuy has recorded one of the most significant increases in this ratio, registering approximately three motorcycles for every new car. This trend is particularly pronounced in northern Argentina, with provinces like Formosa, Chaco, and Santiago del Estero also showing high motorcycle-to-car proportions.
