Argentina Volunteer Firefighters Claim $100 M Funding Gap as Peru Firefighters Tackle Factory Blaze

Volunteer firefighters in Argentina's Córdoba province say the national government owes more than 100 million pesos per fire station, jeopardising equipment purchases, vehicle maintenance and training. Department chief Franco Mattozzi warned that the shortfall, amounting to over 80 % of each station’s income, threatens the operational capacity of more than 180 volunteer brigades across the province.

In Lima, Peru, firefighters are fighting a large blaze at the Yobel cosmetics factory in the Los Olivos district. Commander Marcos Pajuelo said the collapse of an overhead roof and stacked raw‑material racks has complicated the extinguishing effort, requiring debris removal and specialized machinery. Officials estimate the operation could last up to three days, though no injuries have been reported and the fire is now about 70 % contained.
