Argentina issues orange and yellow alerts as storms, frost and winds hit provinces

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued a series of orange and yellow weather alerts across Argentina. Orange alerts were raised for severe thunderstorms in Entre Ríos, covering ten departments including Concordia, Federación, Federal and Feliciano, with expected intense rain, strong gusts up to 90 km/h and possible hail. Additional orange alerts warn of strong winds in Catamarca, Salta, Jujuy and La Rioja, with gusts up to 100 km/h, while yellow alerts cover other provinces for less intense wind, storms, snow and extreme cold.

A separate frost alert was issued for Ruta 26 between Comodoro Rivadavia and Sarmiento, where icy conditions and road salting are ongoing. Cold‑weather warnings affect the south, with temperatures near –2 °C in Comodoro and sub‑zero lows in Chubut. Local forecasts for Necochea, Quequén, Rosario, La Rioja and other towns advise residents to limit travel, keep windows closed, and prepare for rain, wind and possible flooding. Authorities also reminded citizens in Ushuaia to prevent carbon‑monoxide poisoning during the cold spell and urged water‑conserving measures in Tolhuin to avoid pipe freezing.
