Argentina warns of scams targeting pensioners and social security beneficiaries

The Salta provincial regulator, Ente Regulador de los Servicios Públicos, issued a warning about fraudulent phone calls and social‑media messages that attempt to obtain personal and financial information from seniors applying for the provincial electric subsidy and other social benefits. The agency emphasized that it never requests bank details, credit‑card numbers, passwords, or verification codes, and that applications must be made in person at authorized offices in Salta city and other municipalities.

The Instituto de Seguridad Social, Seguros y Préstamos (INSSSEP) released a similar alert, stating that scammers are posing as representatives offering a re‑registration process to steal data. INSSSEP President Rafael Meneses confirmed no such campaign exists, filed a formal legal complaint, and urged affiliates to disregard any unsolicited contact requesting sensitive information. Both institutions provided official phone lines and website addresses for verification.
