Argentina weather alerts issued for storms, wind, and temperature drops

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued various weather alerts across Argentina, signaling a period of significant atmospheric instability and temperature shifts.

In the Buenos Aires metropolitan area (AMBA) and surrounding regions like Mercedes and Luján, yellow alerts are in effect for storms, heavy rain, and wind gusts up to 50 km/h. Following these storms, a cold front is expected to bring a sharp drop in temperatures, with some areas potentially seeing minimums near 0°C by the weekend.

Other regions face specific hazards: Santiago del Estero is under a yellow alert for strong winds reaching 60 km/h and sudden thermal changes. Entre Ríos is bracing for intense rainfall and electrical activity. In the north, Jujuy faces alerts for Zonda winds and strong western gusts. Meanwhile, Chubut is warned of high wind speeds exceeding 90 km/h.

To mitigate risks, authorities recommend securing loose objects, exercising caution while driving, and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak storm periods. In Buenos Aires province, the government is also preparing a real-time monitoring system for over 400 meteorological stations to better manage risks associated with extreme weather events like El Niño.
