Argentina wheat planting reaches 99% as sunflower crops expand

Wheat planting in Argentina is nearing completion, with 99% of the projected 6.5 million hectares already sown. While progress has slowed due to excessive water in southern agricultural regions, conditions remain favorable in the north, where 97% of the crop is in normal to excellent condition.

In contrast to the wheat campaign, sunflower planting is gaining significant momentum, particularly in the Northeast (NEA) region, where progress exceeds historical regional averages by more than 31 percentage points.

Regarding commercialization, approximately 70% of the wheat harvest (19 million tons) has been sold. However, 7.2 million tons remain uncommercialized and roughly 9 million tons have not yet had prices fixed. This commercialization rate is lower than the five-year average for this period, which typically reaches 86%. Market activity has shown signs of recovery amid international tensions in the Black Sea region, which have influenced shipping insurance costs and global wheat prices.
