Argentina wildlife authorities release rehabilitated animals

Wildlife authorities in Argentina have successfully rehabilitated and released several animals back into their natural habitats.

In Santa Fe province, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change released an adult male aguará guazú (maned wolf) into a rural area of the San Cristóbal department. The animal, estimated to be between nine and ten years old, was rescued in Rosario and underwent a full medical protocol, including genetic testing and microchipping, at the ‘La Esmeralda’ Rescue, Interpretation, and Research Center.

In Mendoza, coordinated operations between the Ministry of Energy and Environment and the Ministry of Security resulted in the release of six wild animals, including a gray fox, two black vultures, a coypu, a yellow-breasted gallinule, and a rat snake. Among those rehabilitated at the Ecoparque were two black vultures that had suffered fractures and injuries from gunfire or physical aggression. Following veterinary treatment and rehabilitation to restore flight capabilities, the birds were returned to the wild.
