Yucatán hosts 79th International Cineteca Nacional Film Showcase

Yucatán is presenting the 79th International Film Showcase of the Cineteca Nacional, offering free screenings of 13 acclaimed films from nine countries at the Armando Manzanero Theater and the Mayamax Hall of the Great Museum of the Maya World through August 9. The program opened with the Mexican feature “Tus dos muertos” and South Korea’s “A Home Behind Bars”. Selections include award‑winning titles such as Nicolás Pereda’s “Cobre” starring Gael García Bernal, Lav Diaz’s “Magallanes”, Albert Serra’s “Tardes de soledad”, Bi Gan’s “Resurrection” and Dag Johan Haugerud’s “Love (Sex‑Dreams)”, all drawn from Cannes, Berlin and Venice festivals. Sedeculta director Patricia Martín Briceño highlighted the initiative’s aim to bring premier international cinema to Yucatecan audiences and to strengthen the regional audiovisual sector. A new collaboration with the Center for Cinematographic Training will launch a screen‑writing seminar and specialised workshops for local filmmakers in August.
