Argentina woman becomes first-time mother at age 62

Mabel, a 62-year-old woman from San Nicolás de los Arroyos, has become one of the oldest recorded first-time mothers in Argentina. She gave birth to a son, David, via a scheduled cesarean section at Hospital San Felipe.

The pregnancy was achieved through in vitro fertilization (IVF) involving egg donation, a treatment conducted in Rosario by specialist Dr. Matías Colabianchi. Despite having passed menopause years ago, Mabel underwent the procedure to fulfill her long-held desire to become a mother.

Medical professionals, including obstetrician Dr. Romina Ruffini, reported that the pregnancy progressed normally without complications. The baby, weighing 2.75 kilograms, was briefly monitored in the neonatal unit following the birth and is reported to be in good health. The case has sparked public debate regarding the ethics and possibilities of advanced reproductive medicine for women in later stages of life.
