World Mining Congress 2026 convenes in Lima to shape mining future

The International Organising Committee of the 27th World Mining Congress met in Lima to review preparations for the event scheduled for 24‑26 June 2026. Delegates highlighted the conference’s role in addressing global challenges such as sustainable supply of minerals critical for the energy transition, innovation and competitiveness.

In his opening remarks, former IIMP president Darío Zegarra stressed that international cooperation, trust and shared knowledge are essential to meet the rising demand for critical minerals. He called for coordinated policies that link governments, industry and academia.

During a panel at the congress, Eduardo Landín, CEO of Hochschild Mining, warned that rushing project decisions is the main threat to mining success. He urged rigorous planning, stronger institutional capacity and retention of specialised talent to improve project outcomes and competitiveness.
