Argentina's agro sector hits record export volume in first half of 2026

Argentina exported more than 60.7 million tonnes of grains and derived products in the first half of 2026, the highest on record. The surge was driven by unprecedented harvests of corn (21 Mt), wheat (11.1 Mt) and sunflower (4.4 Mt). Soybean shipments reached 20.1 Mt, representing a smaller share of total exports than in previous years.

The boom also extended to Cape Verde, which imports about 80 % of its food. Argentine corn accounts for over 93 % of the archipelago’s grain purchases, mainly for poultry and swine feed, while premium Argentine beef and pork are feeding the island’s tourism‑focused hotels. Shipments depart from Argentine ports to Praia and Mindelo, providing valuable foreign‑exchange earnings for Argentine agribusinesses.

Overall, the record grain export season has reinforced Argentina’s role as a key global food supplier and deepened its trade ties with the small Atlantic island nation.
