Argentina's Central Provinces Launch Joint Anti-Narcotics Initiative

Minister of Security Juan Pablo Quinteros rejected accusations that rising drug‑related case numbers signal a surge in narcotrafficking, saying the increase reflects expanded police operations. He told Hoy Día Córdoba, “When the cases go up it is because there is Antinarcotics Police force working on the last link of the chain.”

In a related move, the governors of Santa Fe, Córdoba and Entre Ríos signed a historic agreement in San Francisco, Córdoba, to create a coordinated strategy against organized crime. Córdoba Governor Martín Llaryora described it as “a good news for the neighbors and very bad for the drug traffickers,” noting that shared intelligence, joint prosecutions and common legislative reforms will allow authorities to act quickly when criminal actors cross provincial borders. The pact aims to compensate for the limited federal security presence in the interior and to strengthen the region’s overall capacity to combat narcotics and other organized‑crime threats.
