Argentina's Atlantic Coast Welcomes Seasonal Whale Sightings

Each winter, southern right whales migrate along Argentina's Atlantic shoreline, drawing visitors to several coastal towns. In Puerto Madryn, whales approach within a few metres of the beach and the protected El Doradillo area, allowing free shoreline viewing and organized boat tours from Puerto Pirámides. The season runs from June through December, coinciding with the city's promotion as a diving capital and a gateway to the Península Valdés World Heritage site.

Further north, spectators at Mar del Plata's Luna Azul beach reported whales swimming 400–1,200 metres offshore during the May‑August migration window from Brazil to Puerto Madryn. Local authorities reminded observers to keep a safe distance and respect the animals, emphasizing both safety and wildlife protection. These sightings highlight the region's marine biodiversity and boost seasonal tourism along the Argentine coast.
