Chile Treasury recovers $115 m from CAE debtors, warns of embargos
The Treasury General of the Republic (TGR) reported that collection from delinquent Credit with State Guarantee (CAE) debtors exceeded US$115 million (approximately 109.3 billion Chilean pesos). More than 62,000 payment agreements have been signed, but 1,175 agreements have expired and 836 are already subject to active judicial claims. New rules allow the initial payment to be as low as 1 UTM for incomes under one million pesos and cap monthly installments at 10 % of income, eliminating the previous 10 % down‑payment requirement. TGR reminded debtors that payments must be made by the last day of each month and warned that it can enforce collection through garnishment of bank accounts, term‑deposit accounts, virtual wallets, investment platforms and total salary retention.
In related developments across the region, Argentina’s Banco Nación launched long‑term refinancing lines for households in arrears, offering up to 100 million pesos with fixed or UVA rates to prevent judicial execution. In Colombia, a bill introduced by Representative Santiago Castro seeks to make financial education compulsory in schools, aiming to improve budgeting and credit awareness among young people.
