Argentina's book fairs boost children's reading with oral storytelling and school vouchers

Renowned oral storyteller Claudio Ledesma arrived in Saenz Peña, Chaco, to lead a three‑day programme at the local Feria del Libro. His schedule includes workshops on oral narration, a family performance titled “La vuelta al mundo en un cuento y medio” and training sessions for teachers and librarians, all offered free to the public.

Simultaneously, the Feria del Libro Infantil in Buenos Aires is continuing the Chequelibros Escolares initiative. The program, launched at the 50th International Book Fair in Buenos Aires, provides each school delegation with a 10,000‑peso voucher to redeem books at participating stands. Organized by the national Ministry of Education’s Secretariat of Human Capital and the Fundación El Libro, the scheme aims to increase school attendance and foster early reading habits, building on a 104% rise in visits recorded at the previous fair.

Both events illustrate a coordinated effort across Argentine regions to promote literature and reading among children and families through free access, educational workshops, and financial incentives.
