Zonda wind alerts issued across Argentine provinces
The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional and provincial protection agencies have issued Zonda wind alerts for several Argentine provinces. In San Juan, orange alerts cover Jáchal and Iglesia with gusts up to 80 km/h, while the Gran San Juan is under a yellow alert. Catamarca’s six departments face orange alerts with gusts potentially exceeding 130 km/h. Tucumán and Córdoba also report orange alerts, warning of strong gusts, rapid temperature rises and very low humidity.
Authorities advise securing doors and windows, avoiding outdoor activities, and driving with reduced speed and lights on. The risk of forest fires is highlighted, with recommendations to refrain from open flames, discard cigarettes responsibly and keep vegetation clear around homes. Road closures and travel cautions have been announced for affected routes, including the International Paso Agua Negra and parts of National Route 40.
