Argentina's CGT and CTA launch legal and protest actions against labor reform

The Confederación General del Trabajo (CGT) and the two Argentine labor federations (CTA) responded to a Federal Administrative Court ruling that upheld the Labor Modernization Law, leaving 81 of its articles in force while its constitutionality is reviewed. CGT leader Eduardo Cabello said the union will continue filing legal challenges and international complaints, adding that street actions will be coordinated with the CTA.

The unions have scheduled a first joint mobilization with retirees on 22 July, followed by another protest on 7 August during the traditional San Cayetano march. They also warned of a possible general strike and plan a demonstration outside the Ministry of Economy in the third week of August. Additionally, the CGT and CTA will take part in the Social Week in Córdoba from 4‑6 September.

These actions aim to contest the government’s economic policies, which the unions say threaten employment, wages and pensions.
