Argentina's Chascomús Diocese and regional groups host mental‑health and suicide‑prevention dialogues

The Pastoral Social of the Diocese of Chascomús organized a second edition of its Social Dialogue Table in Monte, focusing on mental‑health challenges. The event was led by Bishop Juan Ignacio Liébana, local priest Daniel Chavarrito and Mayor José Castro, and featured professionals such as child‑psychiatrist Leonel Tesler and hospital mental‑health staff. Participants discussed coordinating community and state networks to address psychological suffering and support vulnerable populations.

On July 17, a separate meeting was held in Las Camelias, Buenos Aires Province, convened by a regional federation to reflect on suicide prevention and addiction. Speakers, including Pan‑American Health Organization mental‑health advisor Matías Irarrázaval and psychiatrist Demián Rodante, stressed the multicausal nature of suicide and the need for multisectoral responses, highlighting gaps in treatment access and the importance of societal support, education, and early‑warning signals. Both gatherings aimed to strengthen local resources and public awareness around mental‑health and suicide prevention in Argentina.
