Argentina's INDEC reports child‑rearing costs exceed $670,000 per month

The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) published its June 2026 "canasta de crianza" (child‑rearing basket) showing that monthly expenses to raise a child now range from $529,539 for infants under one year to a peak of $678,308 for children aged 6‑12. The basket combines the cost of essential goods and services (food, clothing, education, health, transport, housing) with the monetary value of care time, calculated from the wage rate of domestic‑help staff. The cost for infants includes $173,468 in goods and services and $356,071 for care; for the 6‑12 age group it comprises $353,885 in goods and services and $324,423 for care. INDEC notes the figures are used by courts to set child‑support obligations. Compared with the minimum wage, the highest tranche represents roughly 1.8 minimum salaries, underscoring the growing financial pressure on Argentine families.
