Argentina's CONICET cuts postdoc scholarships, launches director contest

The National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) announced a 40% reduction in its 2025 postdoctoral scholarship allocations, awarding only 432 internal grants and accepting 44% of applicants. The cuts come amid a three‑year budget decline of 42%, prompting scientific groups to organize a protest on July 15 in Buenos Aires.

At the same time, CONICET and the National University of Córdoba opened a public competition to select regular directors for four joint research units—CICTERRA, IATE, IFEG and IIBYT. Applications are accepted electronically from 13 July to 14 August 2026.
