Argentina's Council of the Magistracy removes judges, provincial board sanctions 600+ workers

Since Supreme Court President Horacio Rosatti assumed leadership of the Council of the Magistracy, the body has intensified disciplinary actions against judges. Two judges have been dismissed, another resigned to avoid trial, and several are facing political trials, including federal judge Gastón Salmain and civil‑commercial judge Alejandro Patricio Maraniello. Additional measures included fines and admonitions for judges such as Javier Anzoategui, Luis María Rizzi, Alberto Calandrino and Miguel Ángel Guerrero, as well as the removal of administrators within the Council.

In the neighboring province of Río Negro, the Discipline Board of the Executive Power has processed 748 disciplinary files since January 2024. The outcomes comprised 105 terminations, 7 exonerations, and 502 day‑suspensions without pay, affecting more than 600 public employees. The board’s decisions address serious offenses such as prolonged absence, negligence, abuse of citizens or colleagues, and confirmed criminal convictions, while shorter‑term suspensions relate to daily infractions like unjustified absences and tardiness.
