Argentina's Defensoría del Pueblo launches police training on community mediation

The Ministry of Security and the Defensoría del Pueblo began a joint training cycle for street‑level police officers called “Actores para la construcción de la paz comunitaria.” The three‑edition course is designed to equip officers with information about the Defensoría’s mission and functions and to provide tools for communication, negotiation and community mediation.

Each edition enrolls 50 sub‑officers who must complete a final exam to receive a certificate. The program runs through three classes and will conclude on 9 September. Agustín Fernández, head of the Defensoría, and officials such as Patricia Santucho of the Ministry’s training directorate and lawyer Victoria Bollero, who serves as a presenter, highlighted the focus on responding to citizen queries and addressing local conflicts. A similar session was held for police in Tucumán province.
