Argentina government says dollar may rise to 1,800 pesos

Presidential spokesperson Adrián Ravier told the official streaming program Carajo that a dollar level between 1,700 and 1,800 pesos “is a possibility” in the coming months. He stressed that the exchange‑rate framework remains stable, the central bank continues to build reserves and the current account shows a surplus, and he expects any correction to be “minimal” without causing a sharp devaluation.

The official exchange rate is hovering around 1,500 pesos, while the informal (blue) market has set a new record near 1,555‑1,600 pesos. The higher‑priced dollar is already affecting fuel and food prices, and the spread with the wholesale rate has widened.

Financial markets have reacted to the broader macro environment: the Merval index rose, Moody’s upgraded Argentina’s sovereign rating to B3, and the country risk premium fell to roughly 410‑440 basis points after earlier spikes linked to rising global oil prices. Brent oil briefly breached US$100 a barrel, boosting export‑earning expectations for Vaca Muerta but also raising concerns about domestic fuel costs and inflation.
