Argentina’s door‑to‑door imports hit record, matching 40% of mall sales
Imports shipped through couriers to Argentina reached a new high of US$125 million in June, a 73.8% year‑on‑year rise and surpassing the previous record of US$118 million set in April. The first half of the year saw cumulative courier imports of US$643 million, more than double the same period last year. According to Analytica, these shipments now account for about 40% of sales in key categories—clothing, sports goods, electronics, furniture, décor and toys—across more than 70 shopping centres surveyed by INDEC, up from under 10% at the start of 2024. The surge is linked to a stable exchange rate, wage recovery measured in dollars, and recent government measures that raised the tax‑exempt threshold for parcels and aligned postal service rules with private couriers. While the volume represents only 1.8% of total imports, its impact on domestic retail competition is significant.
