Argentina's economic debate stresses limits of Milei's growth model

National deputy Guillermo Michel condemned President Javier Milei's portrayal of Argentina’s economy, saying the country cannot rely solely on primary sectors such as oil, gas, mining and agro‑industry. He warned that the current growth does not translate into quality formal employment and that industrial, services and knowledge‑based exports are being undervalued.

Economist Bernardo Kosacoff echoed the concern, noting that while energy, mining, bioeconomy and knowledge‑driven services are expanding, they together account for only about 20 % of employment. He argued that state support is needed to protect and develop the country’s technical capabilities and to shift towards producing more complex, differentiated goods rather than remaining dependent on commodity exports.
