Argentina's educators confront salary cuts and funding shortfalls

In Olavarría, Buenos Aires Province, teachers staged a 48‑hour strike that saw more than half of the workforce participate, focusing on demands for higher salaries, timely health‑care reimbursements (IOMA and IPS), and stronger measures against school violence. The protest included the delivery of a document to the local school council outlining these grievances.

A separate study by the National University of the Litoral highlighted a broader crisis in higher education financing across Argentina. Between 2023 and 2025, university funding fell by 28.9%, while teachers' real wages lost about 35.7% of purchasing power. The report warns that without urgent collective bargaining, salaries could remain at only 64‑67% of the level needed to maintain living standards, threatening the quality and sustainability of public universities.
