Argentina's electricity tariffs surge in Tucumán and Misiones

In the province of Tucumán, the distribution company EDET reported that residential electricity bills have risen by up to 38% since July. The increase combines an 18% rise from the Integral Tariff Review and a 20% jump in the cost of energy, while commercial users face about a 44% total increase. The hike also reflects reduced subsidies and higher winter consumption. EDET said the distribution tariff will be revised again in November according to inflation, and the energy cost will depend on future national measures.

In Misiones, Energía de Misiones and the provincial economic confederation (CEM) agreed to create a joint working group to examine provincial energy variables and seek relief for local industries amid a national electricity tariff surge of more than 500% over the past two years. President Julio César “Chun” Barreto cited Governor Hugo Passalacqua’s commitment to austere management and ongoing dialogue. The group will address issues such as power‑contract access for low‑activity firms and sector‑specific needs in forestry, metalworking, starch production and other industries.
