Argentina's Entre Ríos school meals procurement controversy
Minister of Human Development Verónica Berisso defended a new centralized system for providing breakfasts and snacks in Entre Ríos schools, arguing it improves equality, controls and logistics. The government awarded the contract to Teknofood S.A., a Buenos Aires‑based firm, after a previous tender was cancelled.
The award covers roughly 170,000 students in 996 schools, with a budget of about 42.7 billion pesos. Critics—including teachers' unions and local providers—question the selection process and cite earlier allegations of irregularities in the handling of food‑purchase cards. Berisso said the tender was open and competitive, noting that other firms from the province also submitted bids.
