Argentina's federal fiscal council pushes new tax‑cut pact

Provincial and national officials gathered in Paraná, Entre Ríos, for the Federal Council of Fiscal Responsibility. Governor Gustavo Frigerio and national Economy Minister Luis Caputo used the meeting to promote a new fiscal pact aimed at gradually lowering taxes that hinder competitiveness, such as gross‑income levies, the cheque tax, export duties and retentions. They argued that a coordinated agreement among the nation, provinces and municipalities would simplify the tax system, stimulate private investment and create formal jobs while preserving fiscal balance.

Attending ministers highlighted the value of the forum for sharing experiences on public‑finance management and underscored the need for responsible spending to enable tax reductions. The proposal calls for a phased elimination of distortionary taxes, greater provincial fiscal autonomy, and a clear roadmap to give investors predictability.

The council’s dialogue marks a rare appearance by the national economy minister in a provincial fiscal meeting, signalling heightened federal‑provincial cooperation on tax reform.
