Argentina's foot‑and‑mouth vaccine hits lowest real price

A report by the Sociedad Rural Argentina (SRA) shows that the price of a dose of the foot‑and‑mouth disease vaccine fell to its lowest real level in the series of records. In 2026 the dose sold for ARS 1,556, about 19 % below the 2025 average and 33 % below the average recorded between 2018 and 2026. Measured in US dollars (CCL) the dose costs US$ 1.01, a 10 % drop from a year earlier.

The lower price improves the purchasing power of livestock producers. With a 430‑kg steer, producers can now buy 2.9 vaccine doses per kilogram of animal, 63 % above the historic average and the best ratio of the last decade. For a 160‑180‑kg calf the ratio rises to 4.4 doses per kilogram, also a decade‑high. The SRA attributes the improvement to both the reduced vaccine cost and the recovery in cattle values.

The findings follow a statement by Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation Federico Sturzenegger, who announced the approval of a new imported foot‑and‑mouth vaccine and said government measures have lowered sanitary costs. The SRA’s data support that claim, indicating a strategic investment for maintaining Argentina’s animal‑health status and the competitiveness of its meat sector.
