Massive demonstrations erupted across Buenos Aires and other Argentine cities on 6 August 2026 to oppose the government’s draft “Ley de Inviolabilidad de la Propiedad Privada”. Protesters carried banners with slogans such as “La tierra no se vende” and “Las Malvinas son argentinas”, and unions, the CTA Autónoma, the CGT, the UTT and other social groups took part.

Police deployed the antipiquete protocol, using rubber‑bullet guns, tear‑gas canisters and water‑cannon trucks. The operation left dozens injured – including a photographer hit in the head – and at least a dozen people detained. The repression was described by several outlets as one of the most violent in recent Argentine history.

In response to the popular outcry, the Milei administration withdrew the chapter that would have allowed foreign ownership of rural land. The remaining bill still contains controversial measures such as “desalojos exprés” (fast evictions), a reform of the fire‑management law and provisions that would ease expropriation of private assets.

The Argentine Senate continued a marathon debate on the bill, with a vote expected after midnight. The opposition, including the CTA Autónoma, warned that three other articles remain “nefarious” and called for a national strike and further protests.
