Argentina's fresh fish sector faces emergency declaration amid crisis
Senator Maximiliano Abad presented Bill 1256/26 to declare a 180‑day state of emergency for the country's fresh fish sector. The proposal seeks measures to sustain employment, lower fuel and tax costs, and regain competitiveness, warning that thousands of jobs, family‑owned firms and processing plants are at risk.
The Argentine Patagonian Chamber of Fisheries (CAPIP), celebrating 42 years, called on national, provincial and municipal authorities for fiscal relief, reduced export duties and lower tax burdens. CAPIP president Agustín de la Fuente said the sector is suffering from rising fuel, financing costs and international competition, and urged actions to protect profitability, jobs and the renewal of the fleet.
