Argentina's government denies Palantir link in new AI 'Digital Twin' project

The Argentine Ministry of Human Capital, led by Sandra Pettovello, issued a statement asserting that the newly announced "Gemelo Digital Social" AI system does not belong to any corporation or individual. The ministry emphasized that the project is in a preliminary stage, will be developed entirely with its own technical staff, and will rely only on anonymized public statistics and aggregated data. It described the system as capable of modelling social scenarios, predicting impacts and prescribing actions to improve policy outcomes.

The announcement followed a video by President Javier Milei promoting the initiative, which sparked speculation that the government was preparing to contract Palantir Technologies, the data‑analytics firm founded by Peter Thiel. Critics pointed to recent regulatory changes that could facilitate Palantir’s entry into Argentina. In response, the ministry quoted that the innovation lies not in the digital‑twin concept itself but in its first use for social policy, and reiterated that the system will not use personal data.
