Argentina's government ties new university funding to withdrawal of lawsuit

The national government proposed a substantial increase in university funding, including a roughly 24% salary raise for university teachers and higher operating budgets for university hospitals and programs. This offer is conditioned on public universities withdrawing their legal action demanding the full implementation of the University Financing Law, a case awaiting a Supreme Court decision. University leaders rejected the condition, insisting the law must be enforced without preconditions.

Separately, the provincial Ministry of Education announced a salary increase for provincial teachers, to be applied together with the Annual Complementary Salary (SAC). The raise, set by executive decree after stalled collective bargaining, adds 3.5% to teachers' pay and aligns with recent increases for other public sector employees. Officials emphasized the measure as a significant economic effort and affirmed that dialogue with teacher unions remains open.
