Argentina's Governor Kicillof 2.5% Raise Offer Rejected by Teachers

Governor Axel Kicillof offered a 2.5% salary increase to teachers and central administration workers in the province. The unions representing the teachers rejected the proposal outright, stating they had not been allowed to put it to their bases, and the negotiation returned to an intermediate stage with no new meeting date set.

State employees had already received a cumulative 9.1% wage increase earlier in the year, but the unions argue that this still leaves a loss of purchasing power of about 3% and demand a larger raise to protect real wages.

The provincial government cited severe fiscal constraints, attributing them to national economic policies and reduced transfers from the federal treasury.
