Argentina's June holiday wakes ANSES payments and brings polar cold

After Argentina observed a national holiday on 15 June 2026 to mark the transfer of the Paso a la Inmortalidad of General Martín Miguel de Güemes, the social security agency ANSES resumed its payment schedule on Tuesday 16 June. Pensions, retirement benefits, the Universal Child Allowance, maternity and prenatal allowances and other benefits were credited, including the semi‑annual bonus that raises total payouts to about 674,977 pesos for minimum‑benefit recipients.

The same holiday period was marked by an intense cold snap as an Antarctic air mass moved north. On Monday temperatures in Buenos Aires province fell to 1 – 2 °C overnight with daytime highs only 13 – 14 °C, producing frost and fog. Forecasts indicated a gradual warming from Tuesday onward, with highs reaching 16 – 17 °C later in the week.
