Argentina's La Libertad Avanza and PRO weigh 2027 election options
Pilar Ramírez, the leader of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) in Buenos Aires, said the party may run alone in the 2027 city elections and did not rule out a future alliance with the centre‑right PRO. She questioned whether the two groups would share a common project and noted that any agreement would depend on decisions made at the national level of the PRO. Ramírez also hinted at possible candidacies, including a potential run by Patricia Bullrich, while praising the security minister as a strong political player.
Former economy minister Hernán Lacunza, now a director at Banco de Córdoba, announced his own presidential bid for 2027 with the backing of former president Mauricio Macri. Lacunza’s candidacy highlights a split within the PRO: one faction pushes for an independent candidate, while another favours a joint front with Milei’s LLA. The move also underscores ongoing internal battles in Buenos Aires between Jorge Macri, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and other local leaders as the party seeks to define its role in the upcoming national contest.
