Argentina's La Libertad Avanza faces internal rift over Islam

Internal tensions are escalating within Argentina's ruling party, La Libertad Avanza, following a series of controversial social media exchanges regarding Islam and terrorism.

The conflict centers on a dispute between the 'Fuerzas del Cielo' militant group, associated with Santiago Caputo and influencer Daniel 'Gordo Dan' Parisini, and members of the Menem family. Parisini has engaged in a discursive offensive linking Islam to terrorism and recent protests in Europe. This stance has drawn criticism from Martín Menem, President of the Chamber of Deputies, and economist Alberto Benegas Lynch (h).

Benegas Lynch responded to Parisini's rhetoric by stating, “Nada más peligroso que un católico fanático,” citing the ecumenical spirit of Pope John Paul II. The dispute highlights a growing power struggle between the political circle surrounding Karina Milei, which includes Martín and Eduardo 'Lule' Menem, and the more radical ideological wing led by Caputo and Parisini.
