Argentina's labor reform debate intensifies in Santa Fe and La Pampa

A coalition of Rosario business groups, organized as the Red de Instituciones, submitted a proposal to the Santa Fe legislature calling for changes to the province's labor dispute system. The proposal seeks stricter criteria for calculating severance pay, shorter filing periods for dismissal claims and stronger pre‑conciliation mechanisms, arguing that opportunistic legal actions have raised employment costs and discouraged formal hiring.

In parallel, the La Pampa provincial labour secretariat hosted a forum in Santa Rosa that brought together around 200 union leaders, academics and officials to examine the national Ley Bases reform. Speakers, including the provincial labour secretary Marcelo Pedehontaá, warned that the new law could weaken worker protections and noted a recent rise in dismissals. Participants discussed the reform's impact on collective bargaining, union activity and individual labour rights, emphasising the need for continued debate and technical analysis.
