Argentina's Milei Government Schedules June Legislative Push
The Argentine executive summoned a political round‑table on Thursday to organise the June legislative agenda, review pending reforms in Congress and coordinate the sequence of bills. The meeting seeks to align projects already under consideration, avoid a direct clash with Senator María Verónica Michelli, and move forward with reforms such as a jury‑trial law, a penal code amendment, competition‑law changes and a deregulation package covering cabotage, insurance, real‑estate and capital‑markets rules.
In parallel, the Chamber of Deputies is planning a session on 24 June, even as the 2026 World Cup unfolds, to advance several flagship initiatives. These include the “Super RIGI” incentive regime aimed at attracting massive investment in new‑technology sectors such as artificial intelligence, lithium batteries, green hydrogen, electric vehicles and solar panels; a lobbying‑registration law that would create a public registry of lobbyists and require disclosure of meetings; and a law to settle the remaining holdout claims from the 2001 sovereign‑debt default, authorising a $171 million payment to the last two creditor funds.
