Argentina's Ministry of Public Health promotes responsible media communication for suicide prevention

The Ministry of Public Health in Argentina is promoting responsible communication to strengthen suicide prevention. Led by Minister of Public Health Luis Medina Ruiz, the initiative involves working with media professionals to develop a provincial guide containing recommendations for the journalistic treatment of mental health and suicide-related topics.

During a workshop organized by the Directorate of Mental Health and Addictions, experts emphasized the need for a shift in narrative. The goal is to focus on protective factors and the strengthening of social, familial, and educational bonds as spaces for support. Officials noted that prevention requires a multi-sectoral approach involving not only the health system but also education and other social sectors.
