Argentina's Misiones Province Expands Free Eye Care Program to Dos Arroyos

The provincial government of Misiones continued its "Mirar Mejor" initiative with a second visit to the municipality of Dos Arroyos. Coordinated by the IPLyC and the Sociedad de Oftalmología de Misiones, the outreach offered comprehensive ophthalmologic services, including visual‑health consultations, diagnoses, and the provision of spectacles at no cost. Hundreds of residents attended the event at the municipal health center, many seeking help for near‑vision difficulties that affect daily activities.

Participants highlighted the program’s impact. Sara Anyer said the free exam and glasses arrived before she could secure an appointment in larger cities, describing the service as a “blessing.” Ninety‑year‑old Bernardino Car emphasized the importance of regular checks, while Carlos Machado noted that receiving glasses on‑site eliminated the need to travel. IPLyC president Héctor Rojas Decut said the initiative “transforms the realities of thousands of neighbors” and improves quality of life across the province. In the first half of the year, Mirar Mejor reached 17 municipalities, with Santo Pipó slated as the next destination.
