Northwest Argentina sugarcane harvest 2026 tops 1.7 million tonnes

The 2026 sugarcane (zafra) campaign in Argentina’s north‑west is under way in the provinces of Tucumán, Salta and Jujuy. Three new mills – Ingenio Concepción and Ingenio Famaillá in Tucumán and Ingenio San Isidro in Salta – began operations in early June, bringing the total number of active plants in the region to 15.

By 11 June, the 12 Tucumán plants had milled 1 524 827 t of raw cane and produced 92 399 t of physical sugar of various grades. In Salta and Jujuy, the Ledesma, Seaboard and San Isidro plants together processed 243 524 t of cane, yielding about 140 t of sugar. Nationally, the campaign has reached 1 768 351 t of raw cane and roughly 92 500 t of sugar. Alcohol output includes 32 953 286 L of hydrated alcohol, of which 18 323 286 L were dehydrated for bio‑fuel, while Salta/Jujuy contributed 9 590 739 L hydrated and 6 608 470 L for bio‑fuel. Prices are quoted at AR$30.212 per 50 kg bag domestically and US$302.69–US$444 per tonne on international markets.
