Argentina's PAMI reports financial strain, government pledges to keep system orderly

Argentina's public health insurer for seniors, PAMI, has acknowledged financial difficulties but says the situation does not constitute a deep crisis. Institute head Esteban Leguízamo told reporters that PAMI’s budget is funded independently through contributions from active and retired workers and is therefore separate from recent health‑system cuts promoted by the president.

Leguízamo highlighted that population ageing is driving higher spending on chronic diseases and medicines, increasing the institute’s costs. He stressed that payments to dental providers have been made and that the payment procedures remain unchanged. The government promised to maintain order at the institute over the coming months while working on solutions to the fiscal stress.

The statements aim to reassure both seniors who rely on PAMI and health professionals that services will continue despite the budgetary challenges.
