Argentina’s PEFC Forest Certification Surpasses 380,000 Hectares

Argentina has certified more than 380,000 hectares of forest under the international PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) system, reaching a total of 380,692.51 ha. The certified area spans five key provinces – Misiones, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Buenos Aires and Santa Fe – and is supported by ten active PEFC certificates, half belonging to individual companies and half to group schemes that bring small and medium‑sized producers into the program.

The certified lands are roughly divided between production and conservation, with about half dedicated to sustainable timber, pulp and related products and the other half managed for biodiversity, water‑basin protection and ecosystem preservation. Florencia Chavat, head of PEFC Argentina, emphasized that “forest certification is much more than a technical recognition; it demonstrates that production can be balanced with environmental care and social commitment.”
