Argentina's petrochemical industry sees 38% export growth

Argentina's petrochemical industry is experiencing a period of growth and reconfiguration. According to a report by the Centro Regional de Estudios Económicos de Bahía Blanca (CREEBBA), the sector has seen a 38% increase in exports alongside a reduction in imports.

The petrochemical hub in Bahía Blanca remains a critical driver of this activity, accounting for approximately 67% of the sector's production and 56.3% of the country's installed capacity. The industry is vital for supplying raw materials to the textile, plastic, fertilizer, and pharmaceutical sectors.

Guillermo Petracci, director of Unipar Argentina, emphasizes the need for a new productive contract between the public and private sectors to enhance competitiveness. He notes that while global energy transitions and geopolitical shifts present challenges, Argentina possesses strategic advantages, such as the abundant gas and raw materials from Vaca Muerta and a favorable position relative to global conflicts.
